Do the Birds Know

Do the birds know there's a virus on earth?
Have they noticed we're keeping our distance?
Have they seen us walking alone on the roads?
Do they know it's a lonely existence?

Do the birds know life isn't the same?
Have they noticed the skies are peaceful?
Have they heard the silence in playgrounds and schools?
Do they know that the virus is lethal?

Do the birds know why we're all wearing masks?
Have they noticed our struggle when breathing?
Have they tasted the food being thrown by our hands?
Do they know that we're quietly screaming?

Do the birds know why humans are dying?
Have they noticed in far away lands?
Have they smelled the odour of death in far places?
Do they know why we're washing our hands?

Yes the birds know there's a virus on earth
They sing every morning with sweetness
They fill our days with colour and song
And take away some of our bleakness.
