Do Animals Feel Pain

Pain is complex - a sensation, a feeling, an emotion. It is about how it feels, but more about how it makes you feel. It is subjective, not proportional to amount of tissue damage or hurt. Pain can occur without damage or physical cause. What is very painful to some maybe a pin-prick to others. Pain has multiple dimensions and forms. It is physical and mental, emanating from deep feelings and emotions. In humans, pain is dependent on expectations and consequences, positive and negative. If you are injured, you are well aware of the consequences, the hurt and how long it will take to heal. Strangely many soldiers in battle did not feel the pain of injuries as intensely as expected, Because they saw injury and pain as a release, a way to escape from the prolonged pain of the battle front. Also many people can control their pain mentally to control the way it is expressed Because animals are probably not conscious in the way that we are, Their sense of pain is probably different - more physical and less emotional. It is more likely to be a reaction, a reflex response to hurt and damage, rather than a complex emotional experience. Unlike humans, animals know, but they do not know that they know. Yes, animals do feel pain, which can be relieved and ameliorated, But animal pain is probably less subjective, less complex, less mental, conscious and mindful than human pain.
