Divorce

Done…it's over…I fought for us. I fought for us in vain.
I only want now to be free, free from all this pain.
Veni, vidi, and amitti – I’ll not do this again.
Our torments shared, our souls laid bare, our family rent in twain…
Revocation of our promise, broken under strain.
Cited rather “loved and lost” – but Alfred was insane…
Eye only love’s vestiges, those few that still remain.

Congrats on 7th place out of 49 entries! I loved the unique tone in this piece, almost confessional, raw, and enlightening. Well done!
