Distant

Sometimes, we simply drift apart
No matter what we do
We always try to make it work
Though it's never going to

You say that I neglect you
And I don't know you anymore
You need my full attention
Like the way it was before

"It's not you it's me" I say
But no comfort can be found
We sit and don't communicate
We barely make a sound

Things have changed, they always do
We're simply not the same
We tell each other "It's not our fault"
But there's no one else to blame

As days go by, the words will fade
We're both now less persistant
There's nothing we can do to change
We've now become too distant

I am enjoying reading the many diverse poems written by the many wonderful poets writing and sharing here at PoetrySoup today. I am happy that yours was among the ones I had the pleasure to read Larry. Love, Carol

Sad and bittersweet, but well written tale of love gone bad, my friend. Great piece.

I started not to read this because it was listed category "sad" but I am glad that I did because it's a wonderful write. I wonder if it is more a category "life" since this occurs all the time and is denoted as " we just drifted apart"....Just a thought....meanwhile I have put you as my favorite poet...Thanks
