Distance
I was sat up on the bus last week
And I saw a little boy who was staring at his feet
His mama looked away eyes bleaker than the day that surrounded us
Grey clouds hanging densely in the air around us
Cold skin stiff limbs it’s was unnerving the way nobody seemed to speak
So to speak it was unnerving the distance I felt between
Oh to speak with my fellow human beings
Felt unachievable
I should not feel so disconnected from my people
I want the warmth and the light that I know you have inside let it out let it breathe and maybe you’ll receive a little love from your people
You have to give to receive
I know you’ve heard it but have you seen
What it is to feel the love that you sent out
Wrapping around your chest in the moments that you’re feeling spent out
The weight on your shoulders compressing just a little less now
And I know it seems a burden to give when your feeling low running on empty
Give me space give me time I want to be alone
No you don’t
There is a beauty in shared vulnerability
There is a peace in connecting through our humanity
And I know it’s a little bit scary
But don’t you push away the ones who felt the same
Don’t be afraid to show your pain
We are the same
