Disconnect

I’m sick of the disconnect between me and you, Complacency, fear, and the pettiness too. Long gone are the times when we’d help, not complain, And not for the reason of personal gain. But today it is all about what you can get back, Some don’t care who they hurt, it’s compassion they lack. Too few speak out against the horrors they see, We might as well cut out our tongues willingly. There are those who have something they do want to share, But those with the voices can't be found anywhere, Though society's ears have been deafened too long, There are no conversations, no meaning in song. And our feet have forgotten just how they could dance, Even when music plays we don't give it a chance, Since we're preoccupied with the things we collect, All the stuff, we don't even know why, we regret. And so yes, I am angry at your disrespect, Sometimes I wish I could just make you reflect, On the ripples of actions you make in great haste, In the meantime our humanity is being laid to waste.
