Dignified Humility

time after time,
the sky and the sea
fill me,

          flood me
          with strange, dignified
          humility,

                    overwhelm me
                    with an acute sense
                    of awe,

                              fearful love,
                              a feeling primeval
                              and raw;

and I cannot help
but be utterly
grateful

          for something
          so good, something
          so blissful

                    which, in truth,
                    I could never have
                    the nerve

                              to claim or
                              to believe that I
                              truly deserve !
