Digested Compassion
Angry nails skate, digging harshly
Eyes close, a pain with no control
Hidden struggle, nothing new to see
Hand reaching down, a fresh patrol
Eyes downcast, wings dodge wind’s embrace
The damage just for a bite to eat
It seems no feed can avoid a trace
The shadowed side of an addictive treat
And each time he cautiously sips
He feels his well-being start to slip
Oozing inside, the boiling guilt
Melting down the recently rebuilt
And if he just left them alone
Would his sacrifice ever be known?
And if they left him alone
His words would be naught but bones
