Difficult Mother

if your son thinks
you are a difficult mother
an embarrasing mother
a harriden
a witch without mercy
he will hide him self
all his life
all
his life
and tell you nothing
you will be as if on the porch in a cold wind
with no sweater

as a young adult he will meet
other sons' mothers
who are non-judgemental and good
listeners
who choose their words and their
battles
carefully
who never screamed at a teacher
or dragged him off the playing field
who stayed sober for more than two days
who ran an open welcome house
with food enough for everyone every night
and
long
late night
discussions on things that
boys with
difficult mothers would never dare to bring up
these other mothers
were kind to their husbands
loved their husbands
honored their husbands as head of the household
and
became a unconscious role model
for how your son
wants his life to look

so remember keep your arms
and your heart open
early
start early
and sons will come back
with open hearts.

daughters? that's another story.

amen

Rearing children is not an easy task. There are no set rules. What works with one child will not work with another. All children need someone to be there for them and be the parent. You approached the topic in a good form. Keep writing. Sara
