Devotion Poem, Cat Steps

Devotion Poem, Cat Steps (Written for Jim Eslinger Carefully I near him. He is curled up...sleek. Eyes closed, perhaps not asleep. He sees. He will run. He blends into hallway shadows. The light plays over his outline. He steps within silence, outside hearing. His devotion is fully committed to the circle he has drawn around me: my lap his bed; my heart his domain, entering whenever with assumption — which I embrace as true. This dear cat, my leopard when poised so....Aloof, yet overseeing everything, including outside, where he travels by looking through windowpanes. Too, I have caught how he wears dreams of short escape, his eyes fix on spaces of voids across the room. He pauses to listen through doors. He sees around corners. When, if ever he decides to go off for some while, I hope he lets me follow. My sight stills on his glowing spots. ———————————————————————————————————————- (c) sally Young eslinger 2/2021

You captured the personality of a cat and the wonder we have of what they see and think so well!

A great and deep panorama of imaginative verse born from love and a true poet's heart. Such that inspired comradeship with either man or beast so oft brings. A unity that exceeds the limits of the physical world. A fav my friend. God bless...

Robert! Oh my thanks for your words of support. It might give a hint that this is one Devotion Poem in that series that I won’t show my husband. The leopard...then I, who can hardly see or hear haha check my Devotion Poem, Snow Leopards below for a contrast. Hugs!

This is so beautifully done; your leopard sounds heavenly, "he sees around corners" - for sure!

LOL Caren...that’s meant to imply he can see me doing things I might want him not to, like trying to pull things off the floor to put on the bed where I already keep my pens, markers, gel crayons, 2 notebooks, 2 sketchbooks, you get the idea, it’s a hosp bed...can’t get up 4 stuff, gotta have it by me :)
