Detours On My Road

DETOURS ON MY ROAD I was traveling life’s highway that seemed so right to go, Its end of doom was certain, but that I did not know. So God placed many warnings along the road I went To warn of doom and judgment, a hell where eternity’s spent. The first was many Scriptures, some which I memorized, That spoke of love and mercy and of why Jesus died. Then there were prayers of others who wanted me to know That some day through God’s mercy I could to heaven go. I also had a conscience that somehow said to me, “The way you choose will lead you to shame and misery.” The power of God’s Spirit kept working on my heart, I could not flee the message that offered a new start. At last all of God’s detours had led me to a hill Where someone hung in anguish, and all was very still. I knew that one was Jesus, I’d heard it many times, But now upon life’s highway I knew He must be mine. I called upon His name there, I trusted in His grace, By turning at that detour, I know I’ll see His face! I’m glad God placed those detours there in my road today So I can walk a road now that follows in His way.
