Deserve

Black Men deserve to grow old
Now they getting shot down in the street
Bodies cold
Everyday seems like a black man passes away
Do you remember when we use to say
I pray I get old one day
It's sad to say
It's a blessing to make it to 18 today ??
Little boys say to our surprise
When asked what they want to be when they grow up
Sadly they say they just want to be alive
Young boy , young man
Be all you can
When you feel like you can't be the odds
Know that you can
Know that God has a better plan
You are much wiser
Than what they critique
You are a King from your head to your feet
Do you know that you can still dream Big
Like when you were a kid
Don't let statistics
Be optimistic
And make you value yourself less
When you feel at your lowest still give it your best
Jails , cells, that's where the world feels we belong
Let's prove them wrong
That that is not our home
The system already predicts
That jail or six feet under Is it
Is it that what it has come to
No
Don't listen
To negativity
It's draining
Please let's start refraining
From doubting each other
Let's start up lifting
Using our God given talent
Let's start gifting
Shifting into new phases of life
Making things right
Keeping Christ first in our life
Continue to pray each day
And know that any weapon formed against you, got to go
Take it slow
Don't move fast
Keep your past in the past
And start building your future your foundation, your legacy
Shake it up, throw it back
You got this
That's a fact
Your dreams shouldn't die
And neither should you look through the lense a clearer view
Nothing new,keep trying
Tired of seeing you dying
Let's live, stop practicing hate
It's enough out here for everyone
Lessen your plate
Every one make mistakes
That's true
But how you correct them is up to you
I say all this to say
That our men should be valued more than we say
Yes the news will get you confused have you upset
But think positive
Think clear
Speak blessings
They are near
As I have said in the beginning
We need to stop losing (lives)
Start winning (everything)
You can , remember you are all apart of God's plan

Stephen Foster's, "Old Black Joe" has been a lifelong favourite. I sometimes wake up with, "I'm a-coming! I'm a-coming" ringing in my ears, but agree that not to many African-Americans reach that stage anymore. According to Bounce TV, it would appear young African-Americans see life's choices as fight or die. Sad!
