Derby Day
The odds are stacked against me
But I’ve picked my favorite horse.
Today is Derby Day and will I watch it?
Yes, of course!
I am not a race fanatic
But for this one in Kentucky,
I select my top 3 choices
And I hope that I get lucky.
My bet and my mint julep
Are imaginary; still,
I scream and cheer my horses on,
A rare live-action thrill.
So here’s to Soup & Sandwich,
Midnight Bourbon, Brooklyn Strong!
Though you’re all long shots, I believe
You’ll prove the experts wrong.
I’ve chosen you to win this –
That’s despite the tipsters’ claims –
By a method I’ve perfected –
I’m attracted to your names!
