Deplorable Dorable

Rewarding bad behaviors
to me is certifiable,
however, that some school
theories are leaning
this way is pretty undeniable.

The ones who act the most horrible
are being rewarded hourly, and 
winning fantastic prizes galore.

The ones who yell and scream and
act ridiculous are forcing frustrated
teachers out the door.

Today's incorrigibles are 
the ones who yesteryear were
not the ones who were winning.

Yet, these days, in these great times,
these darlings are spinning, 
in the hallways, on the roof,
and we are supposed to be just grinning.

Deplorable environment now, we have many
good teachers leaving schools.
Out-of-control children and their sue-happy
families are winning.
Are we a bunch of fools?

Yes, what has happened to the schools? Teachers are limited in what they can do and teach; children go wild and some never learn anything; yet the cost of education continues to skyrocket while taxpayers money fills the pockets of politicians. I can't understand why...other than to say it's greed. Well penned.

I keep watching the line get pushed back over and over. The kids keep pushing to the limit, past the limit, over the limit, and the line keeps moving. The ones who need a line, who are begging for a line, are not getting it. It is rather discouraging to watch. I am shocked at how many really good teachers are giving up.

I left teaching long ago and can't imagine ever returning, Caren. It's shocking how bad things have gotten in our schools. Someone needs to take control of the situation. We need to find ways to lure good teachers back to classrooms. Your poem is powerful and the message is clear! Best wishes for the holidays, Carolyn

It is terrible. I think all parents and grandparents should go visit, and speak up, to save the little ones who are trying their best to learn in spite of the ones who have commandeered their classrooms.

I paddled when necessary...for safety and well-being. No must be enforced. Bad behavior, must be rebuked. What kind of loose, amoral society are we becoming??? Great and true rant, my friend.

I am getting frustrated beyond belief, that these new practices mean rewarding the worst-behaved children, as I think part of the reality of school must be to show FAIRNESS.
