Demented Man

Vacant bloodshot eyes Stare at one spot on the wall Feeding tubes and scrubs I should let him die Mercy killers dropped the ball So I pull the plug

Sad plight that people get in in this modern world...I have been in a close personal situation that the family said to code non-resusitate but the NH said that she had not signed a living will to that effect so they had to do all they could to keep her living...Sara

A definite path to personal judegment in this fine Senryu Yoni. It would depend on whose plug I am pulling I suppose. Age would certainly factor in. Great poetry for thought! Aloha, Connie

No offense was ever taken, Yoni. Friends she feel free to share their true thoughts. I have nothing but admiration for you, but thought perhaps you were angry with me when I didn't hear from you for a while. Glad we're back on track! Love, Carolyn

Dear Yoni, as a nurse this one reaches out to me. These end of life questions are something medical personnel struggle with all the time. It's hard on families--it's hard on all that strive to make things better. Quality is better than quantity for me but not everyone feels that way, especially those that hang onto hope that a loved one will recover. This poem is powerful and handles tough choices in a thought provoking way. Well done! Karen

Yoni, your poem reminded me of the decision we had to make when my father was dying. Thankfully, his living will made our choice easier. I would not want to linger in such a state. Truly, letting go is more merciful. Good to see you posting again. Enjoy the beautiful spring weather. Love, Carolyn
