Delayed Rejection

I didn’t aim to seem So heartlessly so mean But you have to try and understand That when you’ve been hurt so often by a man You find it hard to sit and trust That something could be more than just lust You have to deal with me and try to accept As I try to deal with the way you just crept Your way into this heart of mine With an unfortunate lack of time Between the wrecking blasts The ones that seem to lambaste My very recognition of existence Can’t you see why I keep my distance? It’s not you, but it’s not me either. (Though I do grow so weary of always taking a breather.) It’s just all these men, no, boys. The one who act like children with new toys. Something’s just great when it’s shiny and filled with glory. But as it dulls with time it grows boring. And they throw them away like three-day-old bread. And no objection is ever to be said. So you have to understand why I retreat with such objection. I just can’t handle one more delayed rejection.
