Deeper Grounds

Broken, silent, godless angels
Dying dreams and frozen strangers
A fearful storm that steals our beauty
The mechanical reflects what’s to be

Wisdom dies in painless rapture
Smiled away in dying laughter
The angel’s tears are full of knowing
But emptiness has stopped them growing

Stone and ice; barbed wire hatred
Believing wrath is human nature
Twisted by a lost deception
Expressing hate to force conception

Spiralling the empty violence
A breath of hope so full of silence
Expressing truth with lonely wisdom
Writing, painting; creating vision

Broken, silent, learning angels
Shielding love amongst the hatred
Swaying eyes from pain’s deception
Releasing fear for life’s redemption
