Deception

I know this poison seeping in me
The one that hits all men some day
I recognize the game I play daily
With your scent of flowers in May

This love that permeates my mind and heart
The effect your eyes and smile bring
I’ve known all along we’ll be apart
But I still to myself think this thing

You still are who you will always be
I’m still not someone you’d be in love with
Some part of me refuses to see
That these dreams are just a myth

You’re just a girl who doesn’t want me
A special friend I’m glad to know
If only that other part of me didn’t bleed
And pulse this sickly glow

I no longer think of us in the future
I know you don’t want more
You’ll never change your playful nature
You’ll never open this door

Maybe you don’t know what you want
I’m scared of where it’ll take you
Maybe you’ll change your mind next month
I hope by then I won’t want you

I don’t think I can be what you want
You’ll never admit this creed
I think you’ll say the words I can’t
Goodbye, you’re not what I need
