Death of a Loved One

It has been 8,939 days since I last held you
24 years since I wrote a poem for others to read or view
No one knows how big the hole can be in someones heart
From the void that was left when a first born sons life would not restart
Exactly 2 years and 24 hours to the day from which you were born
Would be the start of my life long journey, in you I would forever mourn
The cold spring water that did your life so swiftly take
Was smooth as glass with not even a ripple or a wake
As your mother and I sped to be there by your side
It was less than 24 hours until in my arms you died
The devastation of your loss nearly broke my will
Nearly a Quarter Century later it haunts me even still
The last time that I saw you alive at least was filled with joy
It hurts so bad to never hear again "I wov you dad" from my baby boy

Some wounds take a long time to heal and yet we must transcend, surrendering to God’s will
