Dear Poetry
Dear Poetry,
As I write these words of gratitude,
Tears blur my eyes...
You're available without judgement
And you do not criticise.
You allow each individual
To truly be their self.
The safe space that you grant our hearts
Helps our mental health.
You give each person the time
To reach their depths within.
You give us all the opportunity to show
There's more to us than our skin.
Trying to navigate through life and time
Where would we poets be
Without such a faithful friend
As you, dear Poetry?
Because of you dear Poetry,
We can express faith, love and hope.
Because of you we find we have
A healthy way to cope!
Because of you dear Poetry,
We give and gain inspiration.
Because of you we can entertain
With our unique imaginations.
Because of you true love is felt
By the hearts most in need.
You are a way we can lift others
Writing you - our loving deed.
Dear Poetry, you enrich our lives
Bringing extra special meaning.
You help us find the way to express
Our truths in what we're feeling.
And so dear Poetry, I sign off
With my heartfelt thanks to you.
I truly mean it when I ask,
"Where would we be without you?"
