Dear John

I was going through my computer deleting files from the past,
When I noticed the Dear John letters to men that did not last.
At the time my reasons were perfectly justified,
But some of them I wonder if I threw hastily aside.

I felt a pang of guilt that was not dismissed.
Maybe I sought the perfect man that did not exist.
They were competing with a memory in my heart
Of my first love, although with pain we did part.

I was wondering why you didn't at least write:) Now I know you did, just never sent it:( The first stanza had me smiling, the second had me thinking. Great write, Brenda:)

Thanks Daniel. I did write- I emailed it! I think I need to lower my expectations or there will be more letters. :)

Very touching piece Brenda. I am sure we all have regrets over past relationships but often the damage is done and it's too late once that letter has been sent. Made me smile at 'dear John letters' - just how many were there on that computer!!!:-)

There were a lot of them! Oh well. I took the easier route and did it with a letter. For me, sometimes I can get my thoughts down better in a letter. It is more difficult in person, although may not be as fair to them. Some of them I was glad to be rid of so I did not care.

Yep, they are history! But there is one that would be happy if I contacted. I won't though. We were too different.
