Dead Rose

She picked up a rose
A red sweet smelling rose
Smelled it once
Looked at it once
Then started breaking it
The first petal went down
With he loves me
The second with he loves me not
And then one more and more and more
With every petal
The rose said ‘ouch’
And a drop of blood
Fell on the ground
She went on plucking
Not seeing or feeling anything
Then the last petal fell
With he loves me not
There remained only
A small heart in her palm
She looked down at it
For only a moment
And crushed it between her palms
Threw it on the ground
And walked away
And there lay the dead rose
Pale and crushed
Dying because she wanted to know
Whether he loves her or not.
