Dead and Gone

One day I’ll be dead and gone. The world will forget about me. But life will still keep rolling on As it does now without me. Nothing that I do will last No matter just how clever. Forgotten once it’s in the past, All dead and gone forever. One day I’ll be dead and gone, No memory worth keeping. And all who’ll mourn my passing on Will finish with their weeping. Will they recall me? Prob’ly not For I’ve no fame or fortune. I struggled hard for all I got And I got no fair portion. One day I’ll be dead and gone And won’t worry ‘bout tomorrow. To never see another dawn, Live no more days of sorrow. And no one will remember me. That’s for the best, I’m certain. In the end we all will see The closing of life’s curtain. One day I’ll be dead and gone Yes, dead and gone forever. Six feet under some guy’s lawn Yes, dead and gone forever.
