Dead
she surfaces like a sleek seal
like a bullet from the sea
by text this time
hesitant
apologizing
ready to glide past all the trauma
un huh no way sister
not this time
I'm holding her to the fire
I catch her in lie in the second text
I feel the lines in my face
go
and my heart drops
I wonder
six months now
she must look older
she's passed that 30 mark
and she's killing herself with alcohol
drugs
and a man with a hard hand
losing her looks
soon, nothing to trade on
she was always so beautiful
she was the other half of my soul
but that daughter
is dead.
