Days Longed To Be Remembered
Fifty years ago came
to me this morning
days long pass
a June day so cool.
Waking up to musical
sounds of birds singing
to me. All summer
long to freely do
as I pleased.
No cares, no worries
just now waiting for
friend Danny to call,
to see what we will do.
Junior high school waits
for us after Labor Day
but today June 12 is long way
off till then, so let's
have some fun while
we can.
Shep greets me at back door
with a wag of his tail,
love this dog who has
three more years with us yet.
So many things to do,
three movie palaces
downtown, we may go
to one of them.
Swiming would be fun,
but it looks like rain,
just heard Buddy Holly
sing "That Will Be The Day"
on the radio, great song and singer.
Nineteen-Fifty-Seven, days
longed to be remembered.
Heading downtown on trolly
bus, only ten cent fare,
what a deal that was.
Paramount Theater, what
a movie house, and so grand.
Twenty-five cents to
see double feature
"The Incredible Shrinking
man" was playing today,
don't remember other flim.
Danny and I both loved
this flim. after movie
we went over to city drug
for a coke, only ten cents.
Rain is coming down
real hard now as
we sip our cokes
joking around as we
always did.
Rain has stopped as
we walk over to catch
our bus.
Neither of us knew it
at the time that someday
we would look back, not knowing
that this date, June 12, 1957, would be.
Days longed to be remembered.
