Notes About The Poem

December 7 is Pearl Harbor Day, marking the events of Dec. 7, 1941.

'Day of Infamy' - Lock 'em up

~~ December 7 is Pearl Harbor Day ~~

       Pearl Harbor Day is here
          ‘Day of Infamy’
             in American History

       And yet, I bet
          Most today forget
             our Dec. 8 mindset:
       Outraged and out for blood

          To be Japanese in America
             was to be human mud

     We showed those Japs
          Locked ‘em away
      In internment camps
For three years and a day

      And now, 84 years later
          Are we any better today

that dose of the realty at the end gave me pause....seems as if we are not better today than 'back then' The rise in antisemitism is the first thing that comes to my mind. Sad and angry.

Hi Gershon, the Pearl Harbor attack and the internment camps for Japanese American citizens are very sad chapters in American history. Now there is a rise in antisemitism in America, how shameful. I also think ICE has gone too far in some cases, and in the immigrant detention camps there is some abuse. History has been repeating itself, tragic. Shalom ~
