Day After Night After Day

Day after oppressive day after day Searing heat, soaring humidity Early I rise, before the dawn Evaporated the dewdrops on my lawn Night after oppressive night after night Darkness' curtain drops with a thud What little breeze there was, folds its wings A wall of steam, palpable, over everything Day after oppressive day after day I feel wearier with each passing hour Only so grateful that I still have power Without air-conditioning, I couldn't breathe Night after oppressive night after night I lay on my pillow, unable to slip A thin film of sweat, from forehead to feet Dreading the day, and its sweltering heat

Great poem, Gershon. I can relate. Our heat index has been between 105 and 109 degrees for days. The kids can only play outside for a few minutes at a time. :) Rhonda xx

Same here, although the kids on the block come out as soon as the sun drops low enough in the west. Let's all stay cool! Thanks, Gershon

well written and add to it the stress of the current times! A powder keg!

Ka-boom! Just as you predicted! Chicago has exploded each of the last three weekends, averaging 17 deaths and more than 90 shootings. Defund the police, eh?! lol. The country's out of its freaking mind... So, what else is new, Timothy! Thanks, Gershon

I like how you wrote this Gershon. It surely does show the intensity of the heat and how tiring it is to cope with. I hope it can lessen soon if it is still now that way. Take care :)

Thank you for your concern, Heidi... Unfortunately, mid 90's temps and muggy(!) all the way through Friday. Saturday, only 88 and muggy. Oh, well. Stay cool! :) Gershon

Yeah, me too. Except for -20 Fahrenheit and colder. That's even worse, esp. if windy... Let's hope for a break from this stagnant air mass...

Hello Gershon Wolf, by reading this poem, I sense that you do not have AC. I do not mind the humid weather. I have waited all winter for summer. so I enjoy it. Enjoy your day my friend.

Hello Gershon Wolf, I do not mind the heat. Yet AC is good to have to cool down. Agree. Enjoy your day my friend.

Whoa! Wouldn't make it without a/c anymore. Not at my age. Didn't have it 'til I was 47, and now I can't imagine a summer without it. Stay cool, Darlene!

Sounds like you're having a hot one, that humidity is a killer, remember once was changing planes at Dubai for Mauritius and when they opened the plane door I could feel the sweat running down my face luckily they had aircon in the terminal. Hope you're well Tom

I'm well, thanks, Tom! Although the heat is just searing. It's gonna be 10+ days consecutively of 90+ Fahrenheit along with high humidity. Air ozone alerts 24/7. Bleaah! Cheers, Gershon
