Darcys Laugh
I know I am being watched as I walk through this breezy corridor
my choices are optimal
I could look around, possibly stare down the culprit
could keep walking, a bit faster
could scream loudly as I walk
college alley ways are notorious for nefarious dealings
the hair on my arms is standing at attention
I reach for my mace and quickly turn around
there is a laugh
Darcy’s laugh!
Darcy was murdered four years ago
My head swivels; I expect to see someone
She laughs again
Is it a coincidence that Darcy’s favorite holiday was Halloween?
This is Hallow’s Eve
Has the night enticed her ghost to visit me?
I turn and begin to walk
the hair on my neck is prickling my senses
I know she is here
Darcy, my best friend
Not as a human
As a ghost
Would anyone believe me?
Probably not
