Danny Boy
My grandson, I have yet to meet
That matters not to me.
For, even though I've seen you not
My mind and heart can see.
I wonder if your like your mom?
Do you now have blonde hair?
Or are you like your uncle?
Once had hair, now none is there?
I wonder if you softly cry
Or belt cries from your lungs?
Do you like hearing lullabies?
Just like your mom was sung?
I wonder if your smiling back
At faces, now you see
Though, sadly, I will never know
Together, we won't be.
I dream of you, and your sweet face
In dreams, I watch you sleep.
And, in those precious dreams I have
Are thoughts I'll always keep.
So, though you know me not at all
Perhaps, one day we'll know
But, meanwhile in my heart you'll stay
And, I won't let you go.
