Daffodil Girl
DAFFODIL GIRL
He saw her standing ‘midst the daffodils
And thought of Wordsworth and his lonely cloud.
Against a backdrop of majestic hills,
To him she seemed a goddess, tall and proud;
A sight that made him want to sing out loud,
To woo her with a lilting serenade.
But he was young and shy and too afraid
That she would laugh at him and run away.
And so he left the unsuspecting maid.
Perhaps he’d try again another day
But unbeknown to him, she’d seen him there
And had felt a similar attraction,
An urge to turn to him, return his stare.
Yet she hesitated for a fraction,
Slightly wary of such interaction.
Would meeting with a stranger be unwise?
She wondered what her mother would advise.
Then, when she turned to meet his gaze,
He’d turned and walked away, to her surprise.
Ah well, she thought, there may be other days.
