Daddy Come and Lay Your Burden Down

Daddy Come And Lay Your Burden Down

I hear heaven calling you, your time on earth is almost through
daddy come and lay your burdens down.
Hard times sure ain't nothing new, tears will fall like morning dew
where am I to turn when you are not around?

Sadness overwhelms me now, but we'll get through it all somehow
doing the things you always taught us to.
Heavens waiting right ahead come and rest your weary head
and know that we are all right here by you.

Remembered days of wars back then and friends you loved from way back when
peace is waiting on the other side.
Lovers loved that then were lost is it worth all that it cost
I know to you it was a long hard ride.

Through the day and through the night you taught us to do what's right
even when you knew you stood alone.
We've all seen some hard times too and we owe a debt to you
for giving us the best of all we've known.

Battles fought along the way you swore you'd make it home someday
it's looking like your day has finally come.
No more fights on earth to fight, daddy can you see the light
can you hear the beating of the drum?

I hear heaven calling you your time on earth is almost through
daddy come and lay your burdens down.
Hard times sure ain't nothing new tears will fall like morning dew
where am I to turn when you are not around?

This poem is a touching tribute to your dear father, Edwin. It flows like it could become a song to sing. Excellent! I give it a 7 !

Wow....I am literally out of words, saying this is a wonderful piece will not give it justice. I'm sure Daddy has fought a good fight in life, sounds a lot like it. And its true "hard times sure aint nothing, new tears will fall like morning dew.
