Dad

I was asked to get my father a shirt.
Only I couldn’t give it to him-
He’s too far away.
Dad come back-
I miss you.

He called again last night.
Any questions for me, he asks.
No, Dad-
None I want you to answer.
Dad come back-
I love you.

How many days will you be gone?
When can I help you?
Hug you?
Lead?
Dad come back-
I need you.

When can I stop being strong?
How soon can I let my guard down?
Dad, I want to cry,
When won’t you see me?
