Cyprus Travels

Holiday time took us down the Med to spend it in lovely Cyprus no less there the sun did shine every day shorts and t-shirt was the regular dress On arrival, I had a bit of a scare couldn't find my passport was in a panic finally after 20 minutes found in moneybelt then peace prevailed was no longer frantic There were many popular places to visit the tomb of the kings was there for one the mosaics rediscovered centuries ago a trip to the Troodos mountains in the sun Get the local bus into Pafos for 1.5 euros lovely walks along the splendid front nice shops to investigate their wares many cafes to enter pick from the hunt Just want to lie in the sun at the beach or by the pool, a week went in all too quickly find passport! catch flight! stay cool! (We spent a lovely week a few weeks ago on the lovely island of Cyprus in the Mediterranean so this is my poetic thoughts on our visit. )

Hi Elaine, glad Cyprus is one of your favourite places, we were there this year for first time in May at Paphos and it was lovely. Have you been there a lot? Glad you enjoyed my piece, :-)x

Lovely, humorous and engaging, but it also sparked 'vacation jealousy' - how great to have had a vacation on the Island of Cyprus, ew wee! Your vacation buzz would make a great Haibun (under Types of Poems which u probably already know.) I say this because I sorta 'journaled' a vacation to Hawaii after reading about the form, "Flora Crescendo in Hawaii" (should u wish to read it). I just think your vacation emotion would make lovely prose in that form. I thoroughly enjoyed this read. Cyprus!

Thanks CayCay, Glad you enjoyed it and for your kind thoughts. I'll look at your "Flora Crescendo in Hawaii" later, I tend to just write rhyme and sometimes the odd acrostic, other forms are another world to me. But thanks for your thoughts, much appreciated! Gordon

My Husband is Cypriot Gordon or should I say from Cypriot decent, born in South Africa. The first 5 years of my live were in Cyprus as my Father was in the British army and was posted there, but can't remember much at all. We have never thus far visited Cyprus together but it is a lovely island. My inlaws had a beautiful home in Famagusta, which was ivvaded by the Turks in 1974, they lost everything there, lucky to get away with their lives! Your poem is beautiful and depicts Cyprus perfectly. Hugs and blessings Jennifer

Did you go to the rose factory - I didn't like the liquor they gave you to try there except for the Commandaria wine!:-) hugs Jan xx
