Cuckoo and Crow

Start The sweet call of the cuckoo Bids the long night adieu The female hears it from another tree And is ready for her job with glee The crow guarding the eggs in her nest Treats the cuckoo as a pest Flies out to drive him away Not realizing the female is on her way She lays her eggs in the crow’s nest Before she returns in quest of her guest All the chicks hatch and grow together They look like birds of the same feather The cuckoo chicks grow faster Throw the crow chicks to avoid disaster Crow is unaware that they are not her chicks Completely fooled by their juvenile tricks Soon they are strong enough to fly away The crow wonders what led them astray They begin singing in the cuckoo’s voice For the crow, there’s no choice
