Matthew 15:21-28
We ate our bread with many tears
Laden with guilt and many fears
Bread crumbs fell off all around
Our small dog licked them off the ground
Our daughter is in the throes
Of horrific demonic blows
We are utterly without hope
Terror steals our strength to cope
As children play across the street
The happy sound of little feet
Was broken by the watchman's call
A call that astonished us all
"Would you have a look at this!
The Jewish prophet is amiss
He's come to Tyre for a stay
Twelve disciples guard His way."
As an enemy of the Jew
Now I know what I must do
A Canaanite without merit
But love compels me to dare it
His disciples push me astray
"Lord, would you send her away?
She keeps crying out after us!"
I made my request in the fuss
"Lord, have mercy on me and mine,
My daughter needs your lifeline,
A demon threatens her soul,
Son of David, please make her whole!"
The Master challenged my request
Only Jews deserved His behest
My presence defiled Him, I know
I begged for His help, kneeling low
"Small dogs don't merit My bread,
What's meant for the Jews won't be spread."
"Crumbs from Your table won't deprive,
Small dogs can eat them and thrive."
"Woman, your faith is great! - It's done."
God's terms are not meant to shun
He rewards true faith for anyone
The grace of God is limitless
Free for all and fathomless
Crumbs that fall from His table
Have the same power to enable
Healing and commendation
No matter your life's station
