Notes About The Poem

Entry for Nailing Jell-O to a Wall Poetry Contest: Sponsored by: Suzette Richards  Date wrote 27th Mar 26

In France, straight croissants (croissant au beurre) are made with 100% butter, signaling higher quality, while curved croissants (croissant ordinaire) are typically made with margarine or a mix of fats.

Crescent of Hope

Asked for a beurre, I berate;
a croissant so flaky and straight.
I got ordinaire; what a nerve;
The dumb waiter threw me a curve!

Looking at this again. Doesn't dumb waiter have two meanings? Gotta look that up to remind me what it means as an object!

Haha. Great last line. New info for me that I never knew about croissants

Thank you Andrea, I added the info after my wife read the poem and said "I don't get it". It is also the law in France and you can be fined for falsely selling a straight Croissant!
