Creating Their Own

My eyes have seen the light through the murder of my friends.
And sadly this is where my respect for this country ends.
The home of the brave and the land of the free.
To keep us safe and protected is something that I fail to see.

They send young people to fight wars even if against their will.
Bring them back home dismembered and many now mentally ill.
They say they it will give a head start to your son or your daughter
When in all actuality they're being sent off like pigs to the slaughter.

The ones that survive come home but they're bent and they're broken.
And just how dangerous they can be is something of which never is spoken.
But they teach them to kill and give them the right to bear arms.
Without second thought to the innocent people it harms.

But some of us lose friends due to this sick political game.
And if I asked politicians about my friend not one could tell me his name.
My heart goes out to Mackenzie's family who lost a son and a father so early in life.
And to the others involved even the murders wife.

I'm sure the man she sent off that came home a VET.
Is not the same man she originally met.
This is just one example of this country's sad state of affairs.
But as nothing changes it seems nobody cares.

They have us looking for terrorists on every flight that is flown.
Which seems kind of pointless when they're creating their own.
My feelings about this are something of which I don't have to think twice.
The Dixie chicks said it best " I'm not ready to make nice".

I know it seems easy to place the blame on who pulled the trigger.
But the picture at hand is much much bigger.
As Americans we are taught to stand tall and be proud.
But I find that hard to do when these things are allowed.
