Cradle Song

Cradle Song

Sleep now! Oh sleep sweet child divine!
Sleep now ‘neath a bright star’s light
Rest now Heaven’s prince!
Dreaming through the night
Angel’s praises sing your lullaby.

How little did we know of love?
Did not see your heavenly plan
Still shepherds come with lambs
Earthly kings and holy hosts
Welcome Jesus, King, on this holy night.

Sleep now! Oh sleep sweet child divine!
Sleep now beneath a star’s delight.
Ordinary night
Touched by Heaven’s grace
Love lights up the skies with Noel praise.

Long this world waited for Love’s return
So stilled now the waiting heart
Lord Emmanuel
Let us sing for joy
Cradle songs for the birth of our Lord.

Sleep now. Oh sleep pure winter’s rose.
Sleep child bathed in starlight glow
Mountains bow low
Peace and Justice kiss
Deserts bloom with flowers of redeeming bliss.

Sleep Jesus sleep!

Oh, our sweet Holy Lord Jesus, King of kings, born in a manger. I just could see the Holy night in my heart. This is going into my favorites. This is a treasure.

Sam, this is both tender and profound, a delightful depiction of the mystery inherent in the Nativity: the divine becoming human, Creator dwelling with creation, King of kings as defenseless baby, heir of heaven's riches born to a poor couple in a borrowed stable. Love the lines "Peace and Justice kiss / Deserts bloom with flowers of redeeming bliss". I hope I may someday hear you sing these words to this lovely tune. Thank you for this Christmastide gift and congrats on your win, dear friend ~ John

John, I am truly humbled and honored by the blessings of your words. Thank you dear friend. I love so many Christmas carols it was hard to chose which one to work into a new lyric. Being on the winners list, especially with your beautiful rendition of It Came Upon a Midnight Clear (another favorite) was a Christmastide gift! Blessings of joy to you for the new year. And Happy Twelfth Night!

Thank you so much Robert. There were so many carols to chose from but I kept coming back to Sleep of the Child Jesus - this lullaby that I have always loved. I kept picturing Heaven's Prince in a deep sleep as a newborn and all of the long awaited promises with him in the light of the star. I am so honored by both of your favs. Many thanks of appreciation! A blessed Christmas to you!

My Dear Rhyme Time Friend, I am ecstatic over your expressive and exquisite lyric. I am moved so very deeply by the soothing yet profound emotion flowing through your poetic lines of gem-light luster. Every verse as beautiful and complete as the one before and after. I adore the title and admire your star-bright talent.. I love it.. I love it all.. A fav! Btw, Giovanni's piano rendition of The Sleep of the Child Jesus is as hauntingly beautiful as your flawless psalm of praise. Best wishes for a win and warmest wishes sent to you on serene beams of starlight.. ~Susan
