Courage

I have seen more than I should see I have heard more than I should hear I have felt more than I should feel And I have tasted more than I should taste The afternoon is just winding down And the leaves are turning brown Is it autumn or summer? I just can’t figure out this weather It is summer I suppose because I can feel the scorching heat dancing under my feet The trees are standing still And they are obeying God’s will The wind is not blowing And not one leave is moving They are taking their afternoon nap Before they complete the final lap The truck horn is screaming over the bus horn The motor cycle is racing down the street Exhibiting a terrible sound And the noisy traffic on the street is penetrating my heart beat The drilling sound from the woodwork shop And the men’s idle chatter is upsetting me I am still standing strong Waiting for you to come along The night has fallen quickly And the rhythm has change suddenly I can see the anxiety in your eyes Even though you have already won the race It is the joy I feel when I look at you And the courage that runs through my vein when I think about you I am convinced that you are going to get a big breakthrough More than forty years of sorrows and many days of horror How much longer do I have to wait to break the iron gate? I can feel the bosom of hope knocking on my door And the power of patience is asking for more The time has come when you must leave And break through this bombastic heat, The heavens declared it and no man can control it You will start a new life with me The mountain will sing praises And the valley will celebrate with a new song The days of pledges remember us And the world of cages gathers around us, Smiling at the philandering destiny And the prophecy that will bind us in unity I am waiting patiently to hear the word The word that everyone long to hear A bright light shines through the cracked door Illuminating the entire room, And an angel came to deliver the word She was singing a beautiful hymn That brought comfort within Day breaks and the sun rises And we walked through the iron door I glanced at the night star a thousand miles away I saw him sitting in his cell He had a stern look on his face And he knew that it was the final end He glanced at me siting in the high chair And said “thank you for the courage you planted in me” He looked at me and he looked at her and held down his head, And so it was that the greatest power on earth came to an abrupt end.
