Cost of Freedom

Cost of Freedom
Dr. James E. Martin
©May, 2013

The ultimate sacrifice many freely give
That we in freedom may continue to live.
They come from families rich and poor
And many hardships they daily endure.

What drives these warriors to this way of life?
Why do they choose such suffering and strife?
Could love of country be at their core?
Does preservation of freedom each adore?

This Memorial Day we honor once again
Those who went where country did send.
Their blood they shed and life lay down
That freedom may on these shores still be found.

They are truly an honorable and heroic lot,
Ensure that their memory is never forgot.
Give honor and respect that is certainly due
Because of what they have given to you.

Well done. There is nothing worse than an unread poem. I am glad that I corrected that imbalance on this good write. Very timely words, lets hope we find the answer as to why.
