Conversation With Life
I invited Life to have a cup of tea
On a chilly February night -
To chat a bit about her ways with me
With a vague hope she shares her insight.
Life asked me simply “How are you?”
And sipped her tea with great delight,
“What worries you, what’s old, what’s new?"
I tried to smile but I sighed...
I said, I live the way I can-
I’ve loved, I’ve sinned, I’ve been betrayed-
Forgot, forgave under the sun
but often cried along the rain...
I’m empathetic, speak my mind
I will protect, and lend my ear
I reciprocate in kind...
But awesome Life, please tell me, dear?!
Life adds some water to her tea
Chuckling the way the wise men do,
“You live alright, what do you want from me,
What is it that still worries you?”
I want to know if you were always there
When hardships fell upon like tons of bricks
When I felt helpless and in fear?
You wouldn’t test me with such cruel tricks?
Or did your reprimand me in disguise?!
Punishing me by inflicting pain?
Or was it teaching to be strong and wise?
Forgive me, Life, I don’t mean to complain.
Life smiled deep into my eyes
And uttered with its passion of a lifetime,
“ I've always loved you. Always by your side,
From the first day and to your present prime.
Perhaps I was a little harsh, so what?!
I never claimed to be a sweet, smooth ride
You had some tribulations but
Look at you now! You are my joy and pride!
If I were not the way I am
what would become of you?!
The armor and the shield of mine was what you have lived through.
I promise I will never leave but follow one advice:
Just love me as it is.
I won’t be all yours twice!"
