Consciousness

It is the Voice-- before the Word—
The Witness—still I am --
That knows the Pain of others--
Without a Will—i can't explain --

The Voice may come—or leave your Mind—
As Birds depart a Tree—
Yet Sky remains—though Song be gone—

That voice--Inside the Me—

Not Thought—nor Speech—nor Moral Law—
Defines the Good or bad—
But Feeling—quick—when other hurt—
And I am-- still-- right here--

Silence is not the absence—
Of Care—or even Soul—
It is the Place where Beings stand
Where Names--dread not to Go—
