Conscientious Objector

Oh my god, what have we done Just gone and killed, your only son Even worse, tortured him to death Jeering whilst he gasped for breath In realisation, we’re overwhelmed Certain now, to be all condemned His only crime, was none at all And we the people, made this call We had a choice, Barabbas freed Crucify our idol, and more indeed Mankind is evil, we’re living proof Sold out our saviour, stood aloof So what now, is it time to pay Might just be forgiven, if we pray But who could condone, such a sin Flaying the innocent, of their skin Maybe was preordained sacrifice Let’s just say, made his own choice Stop passing on, humanities shame We like to point, the finger of blame Even now today, two millennia later People are still, intolerant haters Yes we can love, all we hold dear It’s our conscience, that’s not so clear. It has been said that "conscience is a pointy thing that grows dull over time"

With respect John, that could be said about most things in life, including grief, and familiarity, but that was never my intention here, this poem is more about the corruption of interpretation, to ease conscience rather than saying it, for what it is, was, or might be, cheers David

What a beautiful topic, what a beautiful language, and what a terrific perspective on the contest, David, and that's still true, prejudice is common, but we don't have a clear conscience about our misdeeds and faults. This is a strong competitor for the contest and will be highly placed.

Hello Lasaad, Your so right, this is all about selective interpretation, a bit like human conscience, we can live with things, if they are properly spun into a consensus, by the powers that be, all I am trying to point to is the obvious, prejudice is not so clear, even at a spiritual level, cheers David

WoW! David, This is a good take on the contest theme. I found it to be deep and thought-provoking. Your final stanza will cause the reader to think about your message later on after they've finished reading it. Well done. Best wishes in the contest. Have a great day;-)Alexis

Heya Alexis thank you for the visit, because I’m agnostic I feel unrestricted and unrestrained by obligation, so I just say it at I see it, not to be controversial or insulting to the faithful, but I genuinely believe certain facts about humanity’s past are corrupted, and must be said, I’m certainly no angel, or torch bearer for civilisation, thanks again, cheers David
