Connected Hearts

She came from you
A part of you
Someone you loved
Connected hearts

You watched her cry
As he vented his rage
He beat her and though you could not protect her
You did not take her away

You were there
As she breathed her first breath
She fed from your breast
You had a closeness more than any love

You took her into a world
Of nightmares that others would not believe
You watched on as her childhood was taken
Blinded by your own needs

You were there when she was born
You were there, as she held you in her arms, when you died
Despite everything you failed to do
Your beautiful daughter always stood by you
