Complexity In Emptiness

Earthen blood plays across a desolate plain
where once dwelt lovers, now in their loves slain
I kneel down and pray to a colorless sky
my tears weep down but I cannot cry out rain

Seaward goes the hopes and dreams of the wounded dreamer's bliss
in his solitude he dreams of things once shared between a kiss
but ever away all these things fly
He reaches out upward and on high only to fall short and miss

Beyond a heartache and behind a cloud
a mother now weeps underneath the cover of a shroud
She falls on shattered knee and mourns out a sigh
She falls and moans as she is plagued by Why and succumbs aloud

Beneath a hillside of doubt and impotent anger
we sit and abide by fate waiting for a newborn hope lying in a manger
but do we see what has become of all our selfish prayers
or do we sit alone outside and posing on airs for some total stranger
