Compassion
As he approached his local convenience store
He noticed a tattered man sitting by the door
Can you spare some change is what I think he said
As his image rumbled around my head
I grabbed my juice and some milk too
As I was pondering what would I do
I grabbed a sandwich and some chips
Thinking of those words that came from his lips
Twinkies are good and a snickers bar
I sure hope he isn't stealing my car
Smokes, make that two packs
I guess I have everything that he just lacks
And as I hurriedly back away
Suddenly my heart has something to say
It pleads for him right at that spot
Showing to me everything that he never got
Pulling back in his eyes slowly began to lift
As I walked towards him with such a simple little gift
Not a word was ever said
But that night my heart did not hunger as I went to bed
