Communion and Commitment
supper is served by our Savior so that all who wish to dine
can do a self-examination as they partake of the bread and the wine
we've been invited by Jesus the Christ to convene on a spiritual plane
to commune and commit our faith in remembrance of His name
Paul the Apostle challenges all of us to step up to the plate
to test our resolve, secure our commitment and replenish our faith
yet the very ones who criticize church folks more than others
have no problem being with hypocrites unless their Christian sisters and brothers
Christians are not perfect we all have our share of sin
be we know enough to repent to the One who looks beyond them
we know enough to be before God who looks past our faults and misdeeds
we know He is our strength and help and understands all of our needs
He invited us to His supper to nourish our souls and help us heal
He forgives us our transgressions and our desires He fulfills
communion and commitment in the name of Jesus the Christ
communion and commitment as we walk this journey called life
He gave of His body and He shed His precious blood
His death on the cross was a sacrifice and a gesture of love
a Sacrament, a sacred oath to us Jesus did give
so that all of God's children in truth and light can now live
so in remembrance to all those saints and souls who have come and gone
in remembrance of our Redeemer with Whom I dine as a way to atone
communion and commitment to my Savior Jesus the Christ
the bread and the wine in remembrance of all that He sacrificed
