Come Each Spring

A timid Bud — upon the Tree —
Unfurls — as if the Sky could See —
The whispered Hymns — of Daffodil —
That rouse the Meadow — soft and still —

The Brook resumes its silver Speech —
To Clover — and the Finch's Reach —
While even Stones — begin to Dream —
Of Lilac's — old — returning Theme —

Hope — is the Seed — we cannot name —
Yet feel — when Earth forgets her Shame —
It bursts — without a Sound or Scar —
A Resurrection — less one Star —

I breathe — and find — a kinder Air —
The Cold — has vanished — unaware —
And in my Chest — a Lantern glows —
Lit by a Spring — the Spirit knows —
