Cold Water

“My hands and feet turn blue, my body turns numb. In the cold water I lay, my thoughts and memories succumb-- into a black hole, I was the prey. I can’t seem to laugh, or cry, your letter is floating on the cold water— a simple goodbye. You loved me, then you hurt me, you left me, you shattered me. Why then did you slip this ring on my finger? Why then did you help me cook the dishes in the kitchen? Your soft kisses sting my cheeks, my soul has been dead for days, maybe weeks. I’m alive, I’m still alive, waiting for you to ring the doorbell, and come to me with your feeble smile. I don’t need an apology, just a warm hug, I want to get out of this paralysis, and be your one and only protagonist.”
