Cocooned Magic

It creeps and crawls upon a twig,
         for every inch a loathsome
         squirm;
disgusting thing, such hideous sight,
         that hairy, spiny, wiggly
         worm!

But when it spins and weaves its silk
         and makes itself a soft
         cocoon,
there's something that's just magical
         unfolding slow, but surely
         soon!

There, wriggling out of silken shell,
         such miracle none can
         deny:
the ugly worm now turns into
         a lovely monarch
         butterfly!
